"Burning the brand into memory" Business cards traditionally have ink 'placed' on them. By deliberately laser-engraving the material itself instead, we created an indelible mark that cannot fade or be undone. True to the brand name Personhood, we captured an unvarnished worldview directly onto a single card.
'PERSON/HOOD' composed with hand-drawn lettering. Rather than using a polished typeface, we intentionally preserved distortions and wavering to imbue the brand with rawness and human warmth. Next to the 'D', we added an illustration of a bat reminiscent of tattoo flash, infusing the entire logo with narrative and an edgy quality. The illustration is by Matchro.
The paper is made of a composite specification with three layers bonded together: "Hi-Pika," which emits a metallic shine, sandwiching jet-black "Makuro" (OKAC) in the middle. Rather than using ink, the logo and text are burned in with a laser, scorching the silver surface layer to create shadows and texture that printing cannot achieve. From the cross-section, the sandwiched black is visible in layers. The result is a single card that conveys the brand's world in its entirety the moment you hold it in your hand.
